OERA Intern Interview with Zach Gould

Zach Blog

Why did you apply for an internship at OERA?
I applied to OERA because I have an interest in the energy industry and am drawn to the innovation happening in this field, especially in renewables. OERA is driving some of this innovation and I was excited at the opportunity to be able to gain experience in both sustainable energy research and project management.

What projects were you involved in during your internship?
This internship exposed me to a variety of interesting projects. I was primarily involved with the pathway program, the project management framework, and the modeling project. All of these projects had their own unique roles and responsibilities. By taking them on, I was constantly learning and developing useful skills that will come in handy with my future career.

What have you enjoyed most about your internship with OERA?
I have especially enjoyed being able to contribute to projects that will have a real impact on the future of Atlantic Canada’s energy system. This allowed me to gain a ton of valuable knowledge in renewable energy resources, the current Atlantic Canadian energy system, and project management.

Any words of advice for the future OERA interns?
My advice would be don’t be shy, work hard, and use this opportunity to learn as much as possible! OERA has an awesome staff full of very knowledgeable and friendly people. If there is something that strikes your interest, reach out and see how you can get involved. Everyone here wants to see you grow, learn, and excel in this role.
