Our scope encompasses all energy-related research, including onshore and offshore petroleum, cleantech and renewable energy.
About the Opportunity
Are you a recent graduate (last 12 months) with an interest in climate change adaptation and the electricity sector? If yes, this may be the job for you!
This is a 1-year term internship with OERA. Your job will be to assist with the implementation of Nova Scotia Environment's Climate Change Adaptation Leadership Programme. This is a professional skills development, capacity building programme, designed to prepare provincial departments and their external partners for climate-related risks and opportunities. It is designed, funded and led by the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change and we, along with the Department of Energy and Mines (DEM), and their stakeholders are core participants in the programme.
Although you will be based at OERA, you will work under both the guidance of the Climate Adaptation Coordinator for DEM based at Nova Scotia Environment and Climate Change, and OERA Research Managers. You will work hand in hand with them to implement programme activities with electricity sector partners to enhance the sector's capacity to adapt to climate related risks and opportunities.
Within this role, you will assist with:
- Designing, facilitating and capturing data from workshops;
- Developing presentations and other communication materials and graphics;
- Writing reports and progress updates;
- Conducting data analysis and research;
- Helping to build sustainable multi-stakeholder teams and projects;
- Project administration and delivery of climate and energy related research & development; and
- Supporting the delivery of the following products: department and industry risk, opportunity and capacity assessments; customized climate adaptation strategies and project activities; 3-5-year implementation and sustainability plans; and funding proposals as required.
You must be a recent graduate in a related field (graduated in the last 12 months). The minimum requirement is an undergraduate honours degree; however, a postgraduate degree is preferred. You must clearly demonstrate your skills in research, data analysis and written and oral communication. Direct work experience in climate adaptation or energy is preferred. You must show that you have a special interest in this field and an intention to pursue it as a possible career path.
To excel within this role, you must be imaginative, dedicated, self-directed and organized as well as a team player with exceptional research, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills. You can use data, theory, and best practice to identify creative, practical and defensible approaches to overcoming challenges and be able to recognize and articulate appropriate approaches to policy issues. You have a proven track record of working both independently and collaboratively with a team.
Though it is not a requirement, you are encouraged to identify any experience in grant writing, survey design and analysis, monitoring and evaluation, educational training, experiential learning and more immersive, arts-based forms of engagement. We also encourage you to identify skills not listed that you have which you think would be assets in this role.
Work With Us
Annual Salary of $40,000 (including 4% vacation pay) based on a 35-hour work week.
This position may require travel across the province. You must either have a driver's license, a reliable alternative form of transportation or a strategy in place to do distance communication.
