The Pathway Program - Data Automation: Echosounders
Net-Zero Future: A Feasibility Study of Hydrogen Production, Storage, Distribution and Use in The Maritimes - NL Extension
January – March 2021
This study investigated what role hydrogen can play in Newfoundland and Labrador’s future energy system.
Assessing the Economic Impacts of Developing the Port of Sheet Harbour Into an Offshore Wind Hub
February – March 2021
Currently, multiple OSW projects off the Northeast US are under development. The OSW capacity in the US is forecast to grow significantly in the next decade with approximately 11 GW already contracted to be installed over the next years.
Assessment of Clean Growth Opportunities in Nova Scotia
December 2020 – March 2021
Under the Sustainable Development Goals Act, Nova Scotia has legislated a net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emission economy by 2050. To achieve this important milestone a portfolio of decarbonization strategies will be adopted by the private and public sectors.
Stimulating Offshore Wind Development in Nova Scotia
January – March 2021
To attract Offshore Wind (OSW) investment to Nova Scotia, it is important to understand the development in other jurisdictions. For example, Europe has developed, and the USA are developing, an active OSW industry encompassing the entire OSW supply chain.
Development of High Performance Tidal Turbine Rotors
January 2013 – October 2015
This research investigated and informed novel and cost-effective engineering solutions to extract and deliver energy from tidal flows.
Value Proposition for Tidal Energy Development in Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada and Canada
January 2014 – April 2015
This study shows there is substantial potential economic opportunity in building a tidal energy industry in Canada. It indicates that tidal energy could reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and create a new industry offering significant socio-economic benefits.
Assessing Marine Mammal Presence in and near the FORCE Crown Lease Area during Winter and Early Spring
October 2013 – February 2015
This study closes the winter/spring baseline data gap via deployments of multiple, calibrated C-PODs and an icListenHF hydrophone, for the deepest sites at the FORCE Lease Area.
Investigation of the Vertical Distribution, Movement and Abundance of Fish in the Vicinity of Proposed Tidal Power Energy Conversion Devices
March 2010 – December 2014
This project studied active fish avoidance of a turbine using the Coda Octopus Echoscope II 3-D multi-beam sonar mounted on a bottom platform. The objective was to observe and quantify the distribution and abundance of fish in the water column and their ability to detect and avoid turbines.
