Science and Socio-economic Review of the Georges Bank Prohibition Area 2020-2021
June – December 2021
Georges Bank is a large submarine platform located at the edge of the Atlantic continental shelf between Cape Cod and Nova Scotia. The Georges Bank Prohibition Area covers a significant portion of Georges Bank and is located on the Canadian side of the Canada-United States maritime boundary.
The Vectron2 Project: Turbulence Measurements for the In-stream Tidal Energy Industry
March 2019 – November 2021
The Vectron is a new sensor used for measuring turbulence velocity within a tidal turbine’s swept area. The Vectron has been successfully prototyped, where next steps are to take the technology to the ‘industry-ready’ stage of development and the focus of this project.

Greater North Atlantic Liassic Petroleum Systems Synthesis
October 2019 – February 2020
In the absence of definitive, direct evidence for a Liassic (i.e. Lower Jurassic) petroleum system offshore Nova Scotia, information is required on source rock analogs around the greater North Atlantic region.
Multi-Scale Turbulence Measurement in the Aquatron Laboratory
July 2018 – July 2019
This project has two primary objectives - to characterize the flow and turbulence in the Aquatron facility pool tank using turbulence sensors calibrated against a traceable standard; and to test technologies for investigating the horizontal variability of turbulence in real-world tidal channels.

Shelburne Sub-Basin Play Fairway Analysis Update
November 2018 – June 2019
Shortly after the Scotian Shelf and Slope Play Fairway Analysis (PFA) was released in 2011, Shell Canada acquired six exploration parcels in the Shelburne Subbasin and collected approximately 10,850 square kilometers of wide azimuth 3D seismic data.
Remote Acoustic Measurements of Turbulence in High-Flow Tidal Channels during High Wave Conditions
April 2018 – April 2019
Many of the high-flow tidal channels targeted for worldwide in-stream hydro-electric development are impacted by surface gravity waves incident from a large exterior basin (e.g. the Bay of Fundy/Gulf of Maine/North Atlantic).

Georges Bank Research & Data
January 2019
Georges Bank is a large submarine bank (250km by 150km – 40,000 km2) located at the edge of the Atlantic continental shelf between Cape Cod and Nova Scotia.
Assessment of the Potential of Tidal Power from Minas Passage and Minas Basin
October 2009 – September 2011
This project estimated the power potential of the tides and tidal currents in the Minas Basin and Minas Channel regions of the Bay of Fundy.

Physics of the Interaction between a Crab and a Seismic Test Pulse – Development of a Mathematical Model and Testing of Model via Simulation
June 2009 – September 2011
Experimental attempts to establish whether seismic testing has any impact on crabs and the crab fishery have been hampered by a lack of theoretical work on the subject.
Mi’kmaq Ecological Knowledge Study (Phase 1)
August 2009
A Mi’kmaq Ecological Knowledge Study (MEKS) was conducted by Membertou Geomatics Consultants on the Minas Channel area of the Bay of Fundy. This is a comprehensive body of knowledge documenting the collective ecological knowledge held by the Mi’kmaq people.
