Multi-Scale Turbulence Measurement in the Aquatron Laboratory
July 2018 – July 2019
This project has two primary objectives - to characterize the flow and turbulence in the Aquatron facility pool tank using turbulence sensors calibrated against a traceable standard; and to test technologies for investigating the horizontal variability of turbulence in real-world tidal channels.

Nova Scotia-Morocco Conjugate Biostratigraphy Project
September 2018 – June 2019
Biostratigraphy, the study of fossils to determine the age and depositional conditions of the sediments from which they are recovered, is a critical input to the seismic reconstruction of the Nova Scotia and Morocco margins. Detailed biostratigraphical analyses have been completed by an internat
Integrated Active and Passive Acoustic System for Environmental Monitoring (ISEM)
August 2015 – May 2019
The project team will develop a novel environmental monitoring system that integrates data analysis software and active and passive acoustic sensors to provide real-time tracking of fish and marine mammals in high energy sites.
Remote Acoustic Measurements of Turbulence in High-Flow Tidal Channels during High Wave Conditions
April 2018 – April 2019
Many of the high-flow tidal channels targeted for worldwide in-stream hydro-electric development are impacted by surface gravity waves incident from a large exterior basin (e.g. the Bay of Fundy/Gulf of Maine/North Atlantic).

Test Snow Crab Response to Seismic Stress
February 2012 – September 2013
There is concern in Atlantic Canada that there is insufficient information on the potential effects of seismic noise on snow crab.
Turbulence and Drag in a High Reynolds Number Tidal Passage Targeted for In-Stream Tidal Power
August 2013
Results are presented from an investigation of turbulence and bottom drag carried out in Grand Passage, lower Bay of Fundy.
Acoustic Tracking of Fish Movements in the Minas Passage and FORCE Crown Lease Area: Pre-Turbine Baseline Studies
June 2011 – July 2013
This project used animal tracking technology developed by VEMCO, a division of AMIRIX Systems of Halifax, NS. The technology allows researchers to track animal movements and behaviour over a scale of kilometers.
Passive Acoustic Monitoring of Cetacean Activity Patterns and Movements Pre- and Post-deployment of TISEC devices in Minas Passage
June 2011 – July 2013
This project aimed to conduct pre- and post- in-stream tidal energy device deployment assessments of marine mammal activity and to assess the potential risk for interaction with turbine infrastructure.
Community Engagement Strategies & Resource Guide To Support Small-Scale Tidal Power in Nova Scotia
March – July 2013
Community engagement strategies and a resource guide for stakeholders involved in marine renewable energy will support the success of marine renewable energy development in Nova Scotia.
Southwest Nova Scotia Tidal Energy Resource Assessment
June 2013
This is an assessment of the in-stream tidal resources in Southwest Nova Scotia consisting of Shelburne, Yarmouth and Digby Counties.
