Improved Analysis of Harbour Porpoise Sounds

The Pathway Program - Data Automation: Passive Acoustic Monitoring Devices

The developed algorithm, called FindPorpoises, provides a long-term, automated solution for detecting harbour porpoise presence in Minas Passage using underwater acoustic passive monitoring. Data handling, acoustic data filtering, detection, classification and annotation, statistical tabulation, and report generation have been fully automated in a continuous process. The software requires no user intervention once configured and can run autonomously for an indefinite time, analyzing raw acoustic data and producing monthly reports of detection statistics in near-real time.
