Feasibility of a Marine Vibroseis System to Minimize Potential Impacts of Seismic Surveying on Commercial Marine Invertebrates

May 2010 – May 2011

Marine vibroseis (a sound generating system that uses a large oscillating mass to emit a range of frequencies) offers an alternative to air-gun seismic sources and may have fewer environmental effects on marine biota.

Marine Renewable Energy Legislation – A Consultative Process

September 2010 – March 2011

This consultation paper focuses on Marine Renewable Energy legislation. It was developed to guide legislation related to the renewable energy resources in the Bay of Fundy before large-scale commercial development takes place.

River Sources & Sand Transfer to the Deepwater Lower Cretaceous Scotian Basin

August 2007 – August 2010

This project aims to define the distribution systems for sand and help industry explorers refine their exploration targets and better understand the quality of underground petroleum reservoirs.

Reservoir Distribution & Characterization: Shelf to Slope Linked Depositional Systems

August 2007 – August 2010

The objectives of this study are 1) to understand the complexities of shelf-to-slope and slope sedimentation patterns, and 2) to understand the controls inherent in mixed siliciclastic and carbonate shelf-edge depositional systems.  New play concepts were developed that identified significant rew

Analysis of Petroleum Systems on the Scotia Shelf using Thermal & Seismic Techniques

August 2007 – July 2010

The objective of this project is to produce new petroleum systems and high resolution seismic velocity models along several transects across the central and NE sectors of the Scotian Slope. Ground-truth from existing wells on the upper slope will be used as benchmarks.

Development of Marginal Fields in Offshore Nova Scotia – Phase 1 & 2

June 2009 – June 2010

The reduction in cost of a marginal development is largely attributed to the potential reduction in size of the offshore installation. These types of installations are referred to as ‘minimal platforms’.

Mi’kmaq Ecological Knowledge Study (Phase 1)

August 2009

A Mi’kmaq Ecological Knowledge Study (MEKS) was conducted by Membertou Geomatics Consultants on the Minas Channel area of the Bay of Fundy. This is a comprehensive body of knowledge documenting the collective ecological knowledge held by the Mi’kmaq people.

Morocco-Nova Scotia Conjugate Margin Program Phase 1

There is an extensive shared geological history between Morocco and Nova Scotia, which can be examined to improve the understanding of offshore petroleum systems and hydrocarbon resource potential in both Nova Scotia and Morocco.  OERA and NSDEM are currently working on a collaborative series of
